The Weimar Wildcats celebrated their homecoming festivities with a huge win over the Danbury Panthers Friday night.

The win improves the Wildcats overall record to 7-1 and their district record to 3-1 after defeating the Panthers 56-0.

The Wildcats started the game on defense and after forcing the Panthers to punt the football, their offense took over the game. The Wildcats offense took the field in the first quarter and opened the scoring.

Quarterback Collin Morrison handed the ball off to Jerron Fisher, and he found a lane to the endzone. Sammy Hernandez came on to kick the extra point and after a good kick the Wildcats were up 7-0.

After the touchdown, the Wildcats went for an onside kick which they recovered near the 20 yards line. This swung the momentum in favor of the Wildcats in a major way because after only a couple of plays they were back in the endzone.

Collin Morrison snapped the ball and on a play action bootleg play he rolled to his left and found Drew Montgomery in the endzone for the score. This extended the Wildcats’ lead to 14-0, and they only took off a couple minutes off the clock.

With a two-touchdown lead, the Wildcats defense started to dial up some pressure that Danbury had no answer for. They practically lived in the Panther’s back field and made life miserable for their quarterback and running backs.

This led the Panthers to punt again, which led to yet another score for the Wildcats. Morrison was able to connect with Fisher on a screen pass; Fisher used his speed to sprint past the Danbury defenders for another touchdown.

With a 21-0 lead, the Wildcats defense continued to pressure the Danbury offense and forced them to punt. After the punt, the Wildcats handed the ball to Raul Sierra, who punched in another touchdown to put the Wildcats up 28-0.

Before the first quarter ended, the Wildcats intercepted a pass and ran it down to the 20-yard line. This ended the first quarter and flipped the field for the second quarter, and the Wildcats offense found the endzone yet again.

Hernandez was in at quarterback for the Wildcats, and he found Morrison on a screen pass, and he ran the ball in for a touchdown. Then the Wildcats scored two more rushing touchdowns from Fisher and Ace Mesa to carry a 49-0 lead into halftime.

The Wildcats scored one more touchdown in the second half while their defense stood tall and completed the shutout.

The Wildcats now look ahead to their next game on the road against the Flatonia Bulldogs on Friday, Oct. 31, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
