The VFW Auxiliary to Weimar Post 5875 met in a regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. with eight members present. The meeting was opened according to the Ritual by Charlene Muras. Minutes of the meeting in September were read and approved.
There are currently 13 annual members and 24 life members for a total of 37 members.
Candidate Robin Jessogne was accepted as a new member by acclamation in a voice vote and was initiated in a ceremony lead by President Charlene Muras.
Committee reports:
Veterans and Family Support
• The Parkview coffee on Sept. 19, had 10 veterans, five residents, two auxiliary members and four district officer members present.
• Delores Lauck sent out $528.07 in coupons this month
• We have some birthday cards to give to veterans at the VA clinic but would like to get more to bring.
• Auxiliary member Brian Jessogne spent five hours with Frank White of the VFW, gathering firewood for the next VFW drive through chicken dinner on Oct. 19 at 10:30 a.m. It was asked that members of the Auxiliary volunteer their time to help serve during this event.
Auxiliary Outreach
Five Auxiliary members volunteered for the Consider Love Food pantry distribution on Sept. 25.
Buddy Poppy/National Home The poppy display for the contest will be ready and given to Charlene Muras by the end of October. Chaplain –
Linda Wick asked for blank birthday and Christmas cards to send to veterans in the hospital. If the public is interested in donating cards, please send a message via Facebook to the Weimar VFW Auxiliary Post 5875.
Legislative- If time allows, Charlene Muras will produce some flyers to hand out to adults at the Trick Around the Track event to encourage voting in the upcoming November election.–
Nursing –
Sara Bansal is ramping up to gather treats and donations for the January, 2026, thank you celebration of nurses in the local nursing homes.
Patriotism/Americanism –
• Jeanette Koenig, Charlene Muras and the VFW district chaplain conducted the Missing Man ceremony at Parkview Nursing home on Sept. 19. It is is a ceremony and memorial that is set up in honor of fallen, missing, or imprisoned military service members
• Jeanette Koenig, Charlene Muras, Frank White and James Heinrich conducted a flag etiquette class at St. Michael’s for 7th and 8th graders and at Weimar Elementary for 4th graders.
• Jeanette Koenig presented Certificates of Appreciation for flying the American Flag to: Seybro Door & Weatherstrip Co., Highway Motor Company, and Utex Industries. Mark Siefert from Highway Motor Company made a $100 donation to the Auxiliary. His gift is greatly appreciated!
• On Nov. 7, at 8 a.m., St. Michael’s will have a mass and reception to honor the veterans in advance of Veteran’s Day.
• On Nov. 11, Weimar High School will have a Veteran’s Day presentation.
• On Nov. 11, from 5-6:30 p.m. at Weimar United Church, the 4-H club will be hosting a dine in and drive through chicken noodle soup dinner in honor of our veterans.
• Jeanette Koenig will be to asking for thank you notes written by Weimar Elementary students and St. Michael’s students to distribute to veterans-on-Veterans Day to thank them for their service to our country.
• Auxiliary members are encouraged to gather birthday cards and address them “to a veteran” and sign the card from the post. As previously noted, if you would like to donate cards to the Auxiliary, reach out via Facebook Messenger
• Trick Around the Track is on Oct. 29, at 7:30 p.m. and the Auxiliary has a reserved spot for this event. The Auxiliary will be handing out candy (of course) and patriotic party favors.
Scholarship James Heinrich of the VFW, has handed out the Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen scholarship forms to the schools. The deadline for submission is Oct. 31.
Ways and Means
• It is time again to order Christmas wreaths to remember our fallen veterans during the holidays. Wreaths are $17 each and you can order them by sending the Weimar VFW Auxiliary Post 5875 a message via Facebook no later than Nov. 11.
Unfinished Business: New Business:
• The next coffee at Parkview is on Oct. 17. If you are interested in learning more about what the Auxiliary does, this is a great event to attend.
• The next Consider Love food pantry distribution is on Oct. 23, at the VFW Hall in Weimar. Volunteers are asked to arrive around 8:30 a.m.
Good of the Order:
Delores Lauck reminded us that we are to fly our flags on Nov. 4, for Election Day and Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.
The next Auxillary meeting will be Nov. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Weimar VFW Hall Kitchen.
