This unique two-story home, constructed in 1936, showcases the Colonial Georgian architectural style. Locally, it is known as the “Brownstone” due to the color of its brick. Bob and Carol Craig became the proud owners in 2022 and moved in by 2024. Town lore suggests a family connection to the neighboring house, built in 1910 for the Frank P. Herbert family. It is said that this home was originally constructed for the Herbert’s daughter, Agnes, though this cannot be confirmed. The only physical evidence supporting this story is the presence of a “mother-inlaw’s entrance”—a side door at the Craig home that leads to a concrete pathway joining the two houses.
Originally from Texas, the Craigs returned home after spending many years in the western United States. The residence retains its original wood floors, adding to its historic charm. Carol utilizes the space beneath the stairs as her pantry, maintaining the tradition set by the previous owner. The living room is anchored by a large red leather couch, which is one of Carol’s favorite pieces.
Drawing inspiration from their time in Wyoming and Colorado, the Craigs’ love of western style is evident throughout the home’s décor. Carol’s passion for decorating is showcased in her impressive collection of western-themed ornaments. Family heirlooms are celebrated through charming displays of Santa Claus and Dickens Village collections, which have been lovingly passed down through generations. Carol expresses her love of decorating and antiques, a passion visible in every corner of their home. A particularly special ornament is the Radko Marine ornament, which honors her nephew. Although the ornament has broken, Carol continues to display it on her Christmas tree in his honor.
