The Rice Lady Raiders ended their season winless in district play as they were defeated in three sets by the Yoakum Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Raiders were defeated in three straight sets to fall to 0-14 in district play in the 2025 season.
The match started out with the Lady Raiders coming out a little sluggish on the offensive side. This allowed Yoakum to capitalize on several scoring opportunities early that overwhelmed the Lady Raiders defense.
This ultimately led to the Lady Raiders losing the first set by a score of 25-11, but this seemed to light a fire under the Lady Raiders. Heading into the second set, the Lady Raiders’ mindset shifted, and they came out in attack mode in the second set.
Their offense came out strong in the second set but unfortunately, Yoakum made a few more plays that won them the set. The Lady Raiders went from 11 points in the first set to 18 points in the second to give themselves some confidence heading into the third set.
Unfortunately, it was more of the same from the Lady Raiders as they fell in the third set to Yoakum 25-10.
The Lady Raiders were winless in district play this season, but there are still some positive takeaways. The first being that they are still a young team with a ton of talent on their roster.
Now these young players on their roster are talented, but they are still very green and have some things to learn. That leads to the other positive of Morgan Hunter being the head coach.
It’s evident that Hunter absolutely loves the game of volleyball and knows how to get the best out of her players. We saw a glimpse of it this year but with another full off-season of training and another full training camp coming up she has plenty of time to iron out the details of her team and come back stronger in 2026.
