County sees higher than average early voting turnout

Early voting for the Nov. 4 constitutional amendment election closed on Friday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m.

In Colorado County, 11.03% of registered voters (1,602 out of 14,528) cast their ballots for the upcoming election, slightly higher than the state’s 7.75% turnout rate (1,432,202 out of 18,488,166), according to the Texas Secretary of State Election Division. Between 2007 and 2024, constitutional amendment elections in Texas saw an average turnout of 8.36%, according to Colorado County Election Administrator Rebecka LaCourse.

Almost all voters voted in person during early voting. In Colorado County, 98.38% voted in person and 1.62% voted by mail. Across Texas, 97.50% voted in person and 2.50% voted by mail.

This election’s ballot included 17 provisions to amend the Texas Constitution. Majority of the provisions relate to taxation, including property taxes, taxes on securities transactions and death taxes. Other provisions related to funding for research and education, the court system and individual rights.
