The Columbus Lady Cardinals are heading back to the Regional Semi-Finals after capturing the Bi-District and Area Championships.

The Lady Cards have found themselves back in the Regional Semi-Finals after they defeated Nixon- Smiley for the Bi-District Championship and then Marion for the Area Championship.

Vs. Nixon-Smiley, W, 3-0 (25-6, 25-3, 25-3) In their first-round matchup against Nixon- Smiley, the Lady Cards utterly dominated this game from start to finish. Defensively they were the best they had ever been this season as they gave up a grand total of 12 points in the entire match.

Not just 12 points in a set but 12 points for the entire match.

It was quite impressive, but while the defense stood tall, the offense flew around the court and scored the 75 points needed to end this match. The Lady Cards won the first set with a score of 25-6 and then followed that up with wins in the second and third set with a score of 25-3 in both sets.

The Lady Cards were led by Harper Gerik on offense as she recorded 11 kills on their way to winning the Bi-District Championship. Close behind her was Emma Calhoun who had seven kills and then Gracie Schobel who had five kills.

Sticking with offense, there were two Lady Cards who factored heavily in the assists category. Riley Kainer led the Lady Cards with a whopping 22 assists in the win over Nixon- Simley. Behind her was Lucy Schobel who recorded seven assists.

Then on the defensive side of the ball, the Lady Cards were led by Gerik, who recorded 11 digs. Close behind her was Caylie Neisner with five digs and Mary Fitzgerlad with four.

Now these Lady Cards know that there is still a lot of volleyball to be played and quickly shifted focus to their next game, which was the Area Championship against Marion.

Vs. Marion. W, 3-0 (25-19, 25-18. 25-13) Fresh off their Bi-District Championship victory; the Lady Cards found themselves up against Marion, with the Area Championship on the line. The Lady Cards came to play and once again dominated.

Emma Calhoun recorded seven kills in the win over Nixon-Smiley.

In the first set, the Lady Cards defense did not put up the same performance as they did against Nixon-Smiley. But they still played very well and did just enough to hold off Marion’s offense to win the set.

The Lady Cards won the first set 25-19, and they put their foot on the gas after that and sped to another victory.

The Lady Cards defense got better as the game went on. Each set the Lady Cards thwarted more and more scoring opportunities from Marion. In the second set, the Lady Cards held Marion to 18 points, then in the third set they held Marion to 13 points.

The Lady Cards cruised to victory and are now gearing up for the Regional Semi-Finals.

In the game against Marion, the Lady Cards were led on offense by Gerik again as she had 12 kills. Close behind her was Gracie Schobel who had eight kills and then Thea Schobel with four kills.

In the assists category, the Lady Cards were led by Lucy Schobel who led the team with 15 assists in the win over Marion. Behind her was Kainer who had nine assists and then Neisner who had eight assists.

Then on defense Neisner led the Lady Cards with nine digs with Gerik right behind her recording six digs. Fitzgerald and Lucy Schobel also contributed on defense as they recorded five digs each.

The Lady Cards now look ahead to Round Three, the Regional Semi-Finals, where they will take on the London Pirates with a chance to earn a spot in the Regional Finals on the line.
