Weimar — Parents as Teachers of Rural South-Central Texas celebrated Halloween with an enchanting Oz-Mazing Halloween Spooktacular on Thursday, Oct. 31 at First United Methodist Church in Weimar. From 5–7 p.m., local families followed the Yellow Brick Road to an evening filled with wonder, creativity, and community connection.

More than 250 attendees enjoyed a magical journey inspired by the Wizard of Oz theme, complete with themed decorations, character cut-outs, and fantasy charm. Families explored a playful “Spook House,” tried their hand at festive games, won fun prizes, and enjoyed delicious Halloween treats. Live music by local performer Boogie Allen added toe-tapping energy to the celebration, while little witches, lions, scarecrows, and Dorothy lookalikes filled the room with bright smiles and big imaginations.

The Halloween Spooktacular is one of Parents as Teachers’ signature Group Connections, designed to bring families together for joy-fi l led moments while building relationships with Parent Educators and connecting families to valuable early-childhood resources throughout the year.

Families shared glowing feedback following the event, celebrating both the fun and the mission behind it: . "Thank y'all so much for putting on this wonderful event! The excitement my daughter had the whole time melted my mama heart!” . "The thing I love best is the love they have for my child!” . "I liked that I could socialize and meet new people.”

. "Loved the haunt ed house and all of the games!” . "Everything was in one place. I liked the glow-in-the-dark necklaces for safety!” . "Support, validation, and education.”

This year’s celebration also marked the first Parents as Teachers event for Kristi McBride, the organization’s newest Executive Director. “Seeing families come together in such a joyful, creative space was incredibly special,” said McBride. “The spirit of community and the excitement in the children’s eyes truly captured the magic of what Parents as Teachers is all about—guiding, supporting, and celebrating families. I’m honored to step into this role and look forward to many more moments like this.”

Parents as Teachers of Rural South-Central Texas extends heartfelt thanks to First United Methodist Church of Weimar for hosting the event, as well as to all volunteers, educators, and supporters who helped make the celebration a success.
