Council giving green light on city hall job 

The city council agreed Monday night to advertise for bids immediately on remodeling the new wing of the old hospital into a city hall.

The new city hall will house the cit administration, the Columbus Unit of the Colorado County Volunteer Emergency Ambulance Corps and the police department and the counci lchamber upstairs.

Alleyton-Mentz portion of road to be opened 

The commissioners court listened to both sides at a public hearing Monday and voted to reopen a portion of the Alleyton- Frelsburg Road.

The 2.5-mile stretch extends from north of Alleyton, near the residence of Ernest Henicke, to the Mentz area where it ties into the Frelsburg Road.

EPA okays $7,500 grant for Garwood 

The Enviornmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved a grant of $7,500 to the Colorado County Water Control Imprvement District No. 2 (Garwood).

The funds will fi nance improvements to the existing trickling filter sewage treatment plant to meet permit discharge requirements.

75 YEARS AGO

Earl Joe Frnka is chosen Justice of Peace here 

Colorado County citizens stayed away from the general election polls in droves Tuesday, not more than 1200 taking the time to cast their ballots.

And in Columbus, 45k about 40 percent voted, giving Earl Joe Frnka, 200 writen-in votes and a plurality in the race for Justice of the Peace of Precinct 1.

Community Chest inches toward goal

The community chest here inches toward the goal of $4,900 for the 1951 needs of the five participating agencies. Miss Elsie Mattern said that total of $3129.25 has been turned in during the drive but the approximately $1600 Drive Captain Dudley Baker reported Alleyton residents and TCM employees have given has n ot yet been turned in.

PMA election scheduled Nov. 18 over county 

Colorado county farmers will vote Nov. 18 on community committeemen and on delgates to the county Production and marketing adminstration convention where county committeemen will be elected, Douglas Heck, PMA secretary, announces.

Polls will be open in eight county communities from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and voting may also be done by mail on forms supplied by the PMA office.

Eagle, Cardinal juniors tangle here tonight 

Columbus’ junior Cardinals will try to avenge the 20-7 loss they suffered at Eagle Lake last Thursday night when they meet the junior Eagles tonight at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Stadium.

100 YEARS AGO

Many added attractions at County Fair 

The Colorado County Fair has been postponed for a period of two weeks. This was due to bad weather that had prevailed for two weeks previous to be proposed celebration. Due to continued rain the grounds and roads became in such impassable conditions it was felt the only thing to do was to postpone the occasion. Postponement is never desirable, but in this case it was an absolute necessity. And some improvements will be made on account of the delay.

Ford turns over near Glidden Tuesday 

A Ford coupe occupied by Miss Dessie Weige and Mrs. Henry Runge of New Ulm turned over on the highway a short distance west of Glidden Tuesday.

The passengers were returned from Weimar and were coming down the hill into Glidden at a lively clip when the car pulled over to one side of the road, and as the outside wheels got over the shoulder of the gravel road the driver gave a hard pull on the wheel to get back on the highway. As the wheels took hold of the ground after skidding some distance, the car gave a lurch and throwing one tire, literally bounded into the air, according to eye witnesses and turned turtle.

Doctor gets WJZ clearly 

Doctor Willis G. Youens is the only radio fan in this section or in ths part of the state so far as The Citizen can learn who has brough in the WJZ station at New York so that the program could be distinctly heard. It is claimed that an almost surmountable interference exists so that stations west of New York are relaying the WJZ programs for western receiving stations.

Thanksgiving proclamations

The president today issued the following thanksgiving proclamation: A national custom dear to the hears of the people calls for the setting apart of one day in each year as an occasion of special thanksgiving to Almighty God for the blessings of the preceding year. This honored observance occurs with time a tenderer significance. It enriches domestic life. It summos under the family roof the absent children to glad reunion with those they love.
