Last season was rough for the Lady Raiders, with a 0-14 record in district and 1-28 overall. Head girls basketball coach Reagan Beal said, “Tough opponents like Tidehaven are going to require great preparation throughout the season. We are always looking to improve, so by the time we face them we will be at our best.”

The girls opened the season with a 3330 Nov. 8 win at home against Luling.

The Lady Raiders graduated one senior last year, and a strong point for them this year is that almost everyone is a returning player.

Senior point guard Beautiful Johnson will be a player to watch. Johnson’s powerful playing style and leadership on the court are a good setup for the Lady Raider team.

“I feel like this season we will be good if we build our defense to help our overall team,” Johnson said.

Diamond Fuller, Jordyn Fuller, Blessin Adams and Lia Becerra are all returners from the previous year.

“Each one of these young ladies has something to bring to the table, whether it be defensive or offensive rebounds, 3-point shooting or good defense,” Beal said.

Beal and the Lady Raiders are entering this season with their focus on positivity.

“Positive energy throughout the year is always key. If negativity starts to get a hold, then the season will never get better and we won’t be able to compete with the tough opponents in our district,” Beal said.

“I feel like this season will go pretty well, better than last year. I hope we improve each week, and when district starts, we can win some district games,” senior Diamond Fuller said.

Catch the Lady Raiders in action at the Columbia tournament Nov. 20-22, Nov. 24 in Boling, and Nov. 25 in Weimar.
