Raiders boys basketball season opens Nov. 24

The Raiders are ready to return to the court after a successful two years. The 2024-2025 District Champs earned an overall record of 23-8 and a 12-2 district record last year.

They finished the 20232024 season with a final overall record of 27 wins and 10 losses, and a 10-4 record in district play, placing them third in the district.

After back-to-back playoff appearances for two years, the boys graduated six seniors last year. Another noticeable absence this season will be that of former Rice point guard Robert Bennett.

Returning varsity seniors are Arrington “AJ” Jenkins and Avan Woolridge.

In addition to Jenkins and Woolridge, Raider fans can look forward to solid stats from ZaMarion Utley, Jireh Cobia, Jeremiah Grounds, Duran Amos, Anthony Becerra, Jackson Davis, Kordae Johnson, Kobe McGhee and Charles Scott and Jalen Jordan.

“I feel like we should have a decent record in order to make it to the playoffs again. I feel like we have a strong defense, and we just have to see what we do once we get into the season,” Woolridge said.

Making his varsity team debut this season, senior Jalen Jordan said, “I feel the best thing this season is going to be our defense, and also our bond of friendship will help us win games.”

The Edna Cowboys and Industrial Cobras are likely to be tough opponents for the Raiders this season.

John Paul Hunter returns as head coach of the Raider boys basketball team. With their knowledge, chemistry and the fact that most of these players have been together since junior high, and a couple have played together since their AAU days shows that this squad has potential.

The boys will travel to Moulton Nov. 24 for their season opener.
