The Columbus Lady Cardinals season came to an end in the Regional Semi-final round of the playoffs.
The Lady Cards were defeated in four sets to end their season and end the year with a 39-5 record.
The match started very intensely as both teams wanted to have a good start to the match. Offensively and defensively, the teams were evenly matched and forced the first set to go into overtime.
Needing extra time to decide the winner, it was London that broke away on the scoreboard late and won the first set 27-25. In the second set, London’s offense came out swinging while their defense held off the high-flying Lady Card offense.
London’s defense did just enough, and they held the Lady Cards to only 19 points as they cruised to a 25-19 win in the second set. Trailing two sets to none, the Lady Cards’ backs were against the wall and knew they needed a big response in the third set.
The third set was an all-out war as both teams’ offenses went back-andforth with no lead being safe. Fortunately, the Lady Cards defense was able to hold off London’s offense long enough while the Lady Cards offense secured a 2523 win.
Then finally in the fourth and final set, the Lady Cards were only able to muster up 14 points as London’s defense suffocated them. London closed out the set with a score of 25--14 and thus ended the Lady Cards season.
The Lady Cards were led offensively by Harper Gerik and Gracie Schobel, who each had nine kills. Close behind them was Emma Calhoun who recorded eight kills and then Thea Schobel finished the game with four kills.
