COLUMBUS CARDINALS 48, TROY TROJANS 0
The Columbus Cardinals started their playoff journey on a high note by winning the Bi-District Championship.
The Cards defeated the Troy Trojans 48-0 last Thursday night to win the Bi-District Championship.
Despite the score the Cards only scored six points in the first half and carried a 6-0 lead into halftime. Both defenses came to play Thursday night, but in the second half the Cards finally started to break through.
They came out of the break with a second wind on offense and found a way to score four touchdowns. This increased their point total to 34 points, while their defense continued to play at a high level.
They continued to shutout the Trojans in the second half. Kash Wilbert and Cole Tribe both recorded interceptions on their way to victory, and they even forced a fumble.
The Cards scored two more times in the fourth quarter to arrive at the final score of 48-0 to win the Bi-District Championship. Now the Cards have been in this position before as Bi-District Champions, and they know that the games only get harder from here on, but they are ready and excited for the challenge.
The Cards were led by Jack Schobel in the passing game; he connected on four of his nine pass attempts for 70 yards. He also threw a touchdown pass and had one interception during the win over the Trojans.
His top target was Trey Kohleffel, who caught two passes for 16 yards. Brennan Hicks caught one pass for 15 yards, but it was Doc Cantu who led the Cards with one catch for 39 yards and a touchdown.
In the ground game Doc Cantu also led the Cards in yards as he carried the ball 14 times for 140 yards and a touchdown. Hicks also joined in on the fun as he carried the ball five times for 86 yards and two touchdowns.
Following him was Schobel who carried the ball six times for 69 yards and a touchdown. Then finally Jayden Spaulding and Britton Wolters combined to carry the ball eight ties for 32 yards and two touchdowns to held seal the victory for the Cardinals.
With the Bi-District round now behind them the Cards have already begun preparing for their next opponent in the Area Round where they will have another tough test.
The Cards are scheduled to face the Westwood Panthers in the Area Round on Friday, Nov. 21, in Caldwell at 7 p.m. with the Area Championship on the line.
