The Columbus Lady Cardinals have started their basketball season with tournament play and already have four games under their belt.

In those four games, the Lady Cards lost the first one before going on a three-game winning streak to arrive at a 3-1 record to start the year.

They started their season off on the road against Giddings, which is a good test for the Lady Cards early in the season. Giddings usually has a very solid team when basketball season comes, so it was a good baseline test for the Lady Cards to see where they are at to start the year.

It was a highly competitive game for both teams as no lead was safe, and it ultimately came down to which team’s defense did more to win the game. Unfortunately for the Lady Cards they would be on the losing end of this one as they fell to Giddings 46-42.

The loss by itself upset the Lady Cards but to lose by only four points left a sour taste in their mouth. They were ready to wash that sour taste of defeat out of their mouths with the sweet taste of victory, and it only took them one game to do so.

The Lady Card found themselves matched up with Franklin for their second game of the year and once again it was a highly competitive game for both teams. With the lead constantly changing and momentum always shifting, the Lady Cards pressed their foot on the gas in the fourth.

They started to break away on the scoreboard late in the game and when the final buzzer sounded,

they had earned a victory. The Lady Cards came back from losing a game by four points to win their next game by five points, but this winning streak was just getting started.

In game three, the Lady Cards faced Anderson- Shiro and to follow the trend the Lady Cards ended up winning this game by six points. They defeated Anderson-Shiro with a score of 46-40 to bring their record up to 2-1, but there was still one more game to be played in this four-game stretch.

Game four was against the Marlin Bulldogs, and this was easily the most complete game the Lady Cards have played so far this season. Defensively, they gave up very little to the Bulldogs while their offense found their groove as they defeated the Bulldogs 52-44.

52 points are the most points the Lady Cards offense has scored so far, this season and it may be a positive sign. Each game in this four-game stretch the Lady Cards got better, which is something they will look to do throughout the season.

The Lady Cards will be back in action after the Thanksgiving holiday when they take on the Bellville Brahmanettes on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6:15 p.m.
