Few places capture the heart of Columbus quite like the Dairy Cone, and the Columbus Chamber of Commerce proudly celebrated 75 years of this hometown favorite.
We had the honor of presenting Tommy Hahn, owner of Dairy Cone, with an official certificate from Governor Greg Abbott, recognizing this incredible milestone.
The certificate reads: “Known for their close-knit bonds, neighborly spirit, and time-honored traditions, small towns represent the very essence of our state, and this notion is especially evident in the quaint community of Columbus. In such towns, restaurants are more than mere businesses; they are focal points of the area’s culture. In that light, Dairy Cone has, since 1950, played host to family gatherings, milestones, memories, and precious memories — like their birthday meals or post–Friday Night Lights celebrations.
“Serving delicious hamburgers and milkshakes since the Truman Administration, Dairy Cone has truly stood the test of time, due in no small part to its warm, friendly atmosphere and its enduring commitment to the community. Time and again, this family-owned business has demonstrated its willingness to meet neighbors’ needs by providing home-cooked meals of satisfying variety. And for the youth of generations past, Dairy Cone defined the town’s rites of passage. The restaurant has kept its doors open for three quarters of a century and, moreover, has preserved the values and spirit that make it a true Texas treasure. Your longevity speaks volumes, not only about your quality offerings but also the affection you’ve earned in Columbus and beyond.
