The Weimar Wildcats are getting ready to start their season and have been holding practices and meetings to get everyone on the same page about their goals this season.
Wildcats Head Coach Jakob Rehak said he is excited about the season starting, and he has given the team one goal to accomplish this season.
“We held a team meeting before practice with the varsity kids and we discussed our team goals for this year. It was adamant that they had one goal in mind…District Champs,” Rehak said. “They want to prove everyone wrong by picking them to finish 3rd in district behind Shiner and Schulenburg. Playoffs are no longer the only goal here.”
With several key pieces leaving the Wildcats because they graduated like Huxton Kloessel, Zach Norrell and Camdon Morrison all leaving holes in the lineup. Rehak will look to this new wave of seniors to lead this team to a district title in 2025 and said he expects big things out of them.
“This year I expect big things out of the following players: Jerron Fisher, Collin Morrison, Sammy Hernandez, Cadyn Booker, and Drew Montgomery,” Rehak said.
He will lean heavily on his senior leadership and has even given them a few individual goals to try to meet this season.
“Several of these players were given individual goals by me for this upcoming season,’ Rehak said.
Those goals are for Jerron Fisher to win the District MVP, for Collin Morrison to win the Offensive Player of the Year and for Sammy Hernandez to win Defensive Player of the Year. All are very accomplishable as these guys have been in this system for more than three years and know what is expected of them and how to be successful within this system.
These Wildcats are also coming in with a chip on their shoulder too because so many people picked them to finish low in the district standings which is just fueling their fire for the 2025 season.
Now even with their goals set for the season, the Wildcats have two games circled on their schedule and for fans of the team, the games that are circled are not that surprising.
“January 2nd vs Schulenburg, not only because it’s the first district game of the year for us, but also because we know Schulenburg wants vengeance from last year after we swept them in district,” Rehak said. “Also, it’s also sweet to get a district win not only against your Highway 90 rival, but your former high school coach!”
The second game the Wildcats have circled is also against a district rival.
“January 9th vs Shiner. Last year we finally broke the streak against Shiner by beating them for the first time in 4 years since I have been here. We want to build on that success and upset the projected 1 seed for our district,” Rehak said.
The Wildcats will be in action after the Thanksgiving holiday when they welcome in Fayetteville on Tuesday, Ded. 2, at 6:15 p.m. on their home court.
