In late November, St. Rose Catholic School’s 5th and 6th grade students demonstrated what citizen philanthropy looks like in real life: young people giving their time, energy, and heart to support their neighbors.
Over the course of three days, these students joined Healthy High/ Healthy Choices (a program of the Stanzel Family Foundation) to assemble LiftPacks, hygiene supply kits designed to help local students, scholars, and senior citizens. With teamwork and a surprising amount of efficiency, the students formed assembly lines and packed hundreds of kits.
Each LiftPack includes essential items like a toothbrush, toothpaste, flossers, deodorant, and feminine products, simple supplies that can make a meaningful difference in daily comfort and dignity. As part of the Stanzel Family Foundation’s Healthy High / Healthy Choices initiative, LiftPacks help meet basic needs, allowing individuals to feel prepared, confident, and cared for.
For the St. Rose students, this wasn’t just a class activity. It was a hands-on lesson in the power of generosity. Philanthropy isn’t only about giving money, it’s also about giving of themselves, their time, kindness, and willingness to help others.
This spirit is at the heart of the Stanzel Family Foundation’s Citizen Philanthropy approach: Everyone, at every age, has something valuable to contribute to the wellbeing of our rural communities.
As these young volunteers packed each item, they were lifting up their neighbors, families, and peers. In doing so, they became part of something bigger: a tradition of community care that strengthens Schulenburg, Weimar, and the broader region one act of kindness at a time.
