Wildcats lose first game of the year

The Weimar Wildcats have officially started their 2025 season by facing the Hallettsville Brahmas.

The game was close but ultimately the Wildcats were defeated by the Brahmas by only four points.

The game started out a little slow as neither team scored double digits in the first quarter of the game. The Wildcats did show up to play though as they came away with the lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Wildcats led 9-3 at the end of the first quarter and then in the second quarter it was an offensive explosion. The Wildcats were outscored 16-15 in the second quarter but still carried a 24-19 into halftime.

After the break the Wildcats offense returned to form in the third quarter while the defensively the held the Brahmas to only 10 points. The Wildcats scored 13 points in the third quarter to extend their lead to 37-29 going into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Brahmas outscored the Wildcats once again as they scored 18 points to the Wildcats six points. This was just enough to push the Brahmas ahead of the Wildcats late in the game to come away with a 47-43 win.

The Wildcats offense went cold in the fourth quarter, and it ultimately cost them the game. This is a good lesson for this team to learn early. If they have an opportunity to win the game, you drive the nail in the coffin and end the game.

This is also game one for the Wildcats, so some first game jitters and a little bit of rust from not playing a whole lot recently. This team has the means to get back on track and there’s no doubt that they will.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 5, when they travel to take on Burton looking for their first win of the year.
