During the Nov. 18 meeting, Amanda Dann ing, local forensic sculptor, enl ightened the Di lue Rose Harris Chapter of the Daughters on the Republic of Texas (DRT) on her role in sculpting and putting a face on history.
She presented a fascinating look into the French explorer LaSalle and his crew and their excursion into Texas. Danning was part of reconstructing the faces on two of the crew members of LaSalle and the excavation of his ship LaBelle that sunk in the mouth of the Colorado in 1686. She explained how using the skull and knowledge of muscle structure she is able to identify facial structures.
Her work truly does bring history to life and has been documented in several books. All members were thoroughly capt ivated by the insights into LaSalle’s expedition and the LaBelle.
