The Columbus Lady Cardinals traveled to Schulenburg this past week to participate in their tournament.

They played four games so far and took on Port Aransas, the hosting Schulenburg, East Bernard and Industrial.

Vs. Port Aransas, W, 47-30 In their first game of the tournament, the Lady Cards wasted no time picking up their first win. They took on Port Aransas and offensively they put on a show for the fans in attendance.

The Lady Cards jumped out to an early lead and held onto it for the entire game. They also suffocated Port Aransas defensively allowing them to score only 30 points and as the tournament went on, the Lady Cards defense got even better.

After winning their first game by 17 points, the Lady Cards were ready to make a statement against Schulenburg.

Vs. Schulenburg, W, 49- 46 Game two of the tournament was much closer than game one of the tournament as Schulenburg tried to defend home court. In game two, the Lady Cards offense was still operating effectively.

They once again scored more than 45 points as they picked up another victory this season to put them at a 8-2 record. Schulenburg was able to break through the Lady Cards defense late in this game to make the score close, but the Lady Cards handled it well.

They did not make a lot of mistakes late and just played very sound and consistent defense to close the game out. They did just enough to hold Schulenburg off and win the game with a final score of 49-46.

This gave the Lady Cards a ton of momentum that they carried into game three of the tournament.

Vs. East Bernard, W, 44-33 After a close game with Schulenburg, the Lady Cards came back with a dominant performance against East Bernard. They wasted no time establishing a lead, and once they established the lead, they just continued to extend it.

East Bernard did make a push late where they outscored the Lady Cards and made it seem like a comeback was imminent. But the Lady Cards defense was ready for the challenge and shut down the East Bernard offense before they got too comfortable.

They were able to hold onto their large lead and take home a 44-33 win as they set their sights on their final game against Industrial.

Vs. Industrial, W, 44-31 In their final game, the Lady Cards once again scored 44 points in a winning effort as their confidence on offense is sky high. On defense they turned in an even better performance as they held Industrial to only 31 points.

By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Cards had a 12-6 lead which they followed that up by outscoring Industrial 11-4 in the second quarter. This left the score at 23-10 going into halftime, but the Lady Cards offense was just getting started.

They added 15 points to their lead in the third quarter while Industrial cut into the Lady Cards lead by scoring 10 points. With the score at 38-20 Industrial final outscored the Lady Cards 11-6 in the final quarter.

But the Lady Cards had done enough damage and won the game 44-31 to improve their record to 10-2.

The Lady Cards now look ahead to their next game against Bay City which is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
