Four Cardinals make the Academic All-State team

The Columbus Cardinals football season came to an end last week after falling to the Yoakum Bulldogs. Despite this, the Cards are receiving honors for their hard work both on and off the field. Four of their players were chosen to be on the Academic All-State team, which is a big accomplishment. It is big because it shows that these kids care just as much about the student part as much as the athlete part when it comes to being a student athlete. To be chosen for the Academic All-State team, the base requirement is to maintain a 3.5 GPA. The four Cardinals that were chosen were Rylan Carruthers, Cooper Osborne, Giovanni Martinez and Jesus Mendoza. These four were also major contributors on the field as all four played on offense, defense and special teams. They logged a lot of time on the field wearing several different hats for the Cards. But they also spent plenty of time in the classroom making sure they got their work done. They put the work in and earned a spot on the Academic All-State team to put a nice bow on this season.
