On Dec. 1, Kathleen Townsen and Donna Pustejovsky, members of the local Dilue Rose Harris chapter of the Daughters of Republic of Texas (DRT), presented the Pioneer Life Trunk Show to Columbus Elementary 4th graders.
The program was coordinated by Tammy Ruether and Kristen Boatman and Katrina Delgadillo classes participated. Many items that would be found in a pioneer home during the early 1800s were displayed and discussed.
These objects included household goods, clothing, toys, maps, replica money, etc. The students had many comments or questions and compared these items to what they have available today. As time allowed, youngsters were also allowed to handle, use, experiment, and play with the items. Many students liked the idea of using these “old-fashioned” things but would miss their modern-day conveniences.
