LA GRANGE – What began as a simple Facebook conversation has blossomed into a county-wide effort to ensure every child in Fayette County stays warm this season. Former classmates John Sturrock and Tracy Denton joined forces to make a difference— and their idea quickly gained momentum.
Tracy Denton, director of marketing, communications, and training at Fayette Electric Cooperative, saw an opportunity to leverage the co-op’s reach to expand the initiative. With that, the FEC Coat Connection was born.
The program is calling on the community to donate new or gently used coats, winter hats, and gloves in sizes ranging from infant to adult XL. Monetary donations are also welcome to help provide for children in need.
Donation Period: Dec. 9–29 Donation Sites: If you would like to donate new or gently used coats, you may drop them off at: Fayette Electric Cooperative, located at 2111 N. Von Minden Road, La Grange Monument Hill Nursing & Rehab Center, located at 120 St. Loop 92, La Grange Sign-Up Location: Fayette Electric Cooperative 2111 N. Von Minden Road, La Grange, 78945 Parents can register children (infants through 12th grade) to receive a winter coat. Please bring your child’s birth certificate or current report card for registration.
Pick-Up Date: Dec. 30, Time: 12 – 5 p.m. Location: Fayette Electric Cooperative Local businesses are encouraged to join the cause by serving as collection sites for coats, hats, and gloves. Interested companies can comment on the original post or contact Tracy Denton at 979-9683181 or 979-702-0890.
John Sturrock, president of the Palehorse Motorcycle Club, shared his motivation for starting the initiative, “I’ve always believed in giving back to the community that raised me. When I saw the need, I knew we could make a real difference by coming together. Every child deserves to feel warm and cared for during the holidays.”
Tracy Denton emphasized how the effort reflects a core cooperative value, “Concern for Community is one of the guiding principles of cooperatives. At FEC, we believe in supporting our neighbors and strengthening the communities we serve. This coat drive is a way for all of us to come together and make sure no child faces winter without warmth.”
Let’s come together to spread warmth and kindness this holiday season— because no child should face winter without a cozy coat.
