Weimar Chess Tournament

Saturday, Jan. 10 | 1:45-5 p.m. | Weimar Civic Center, 1754 Interstate 10 | Weimar

Chess players aged five and up are invited to freely participate in the Weimar Chess Tournament. The tournament is divided into three age divisions and will have one round  before an awards ceremony. Weimar Community Book Club

All readers are welcome to attend the first meeting of the new Weimar Community Book Club for its January meeting. For January, the selected book is “The Lion Women of Tehran” by Marjan Kamali. Kamali’s website describes the historical fiction novel: “A heartfelt, epic new novel of friendship, betrayal, and redemption set against three transformative decades in Tehran, Iran.”

Begonias with Columbus Garden Club

Wednesday, Jan. 14 | 9:30-11:30 a.m. | St. Paul Lutheran Lighthouse, 137 Milentz St | Columbus

Cheryl Lannert will be sharing details about the wide variety of begonias and how to successfully grow them. Cheryl is a National Begonia Judge and member of Far Corners Garden Study Club in Houston. This intriguing program will be a fun and colorful break from the drab outdoor winterscape.
