Hello, everyone and welcome back to the Huddle and this week we will be looking at the Rice Lady Raiders basketball team.
I chose them because of the improvement they made from last season to now as they have five times more wins than last season.
The Lady Raiders won only one game last season, and it was a tough season for the players, coaches and fans to get through. So, what has changed? What is so different about this team this season from last?

Well, that’s what I am here to talk about to today because just from the eye test the Lady Raiders are a completely different team. For starters they have taken a ton of pressure off of their starting point guard Beautiful Johnson, who was relied on heavily offensively.
There were games last season that would score triple the amount of the rest of the team, which is not a recipe for winning when one player is scoring all the points. This season they are spreading the floor out and opening up shooting opportunities for other players on the team.
While they are opening shooting opportunities the most important part of it is that the Lady Raiders are making their shots. One player who has stuck out the most this season offensively for the Lady Raiders is Lia Becerra who is almost automatic from three-point land.

Another is Diamond and Jordyn Fuller who have become dominant paint presences for the Lady Raiders this season. Then there’s Blessin Adams who comes off the bench and continues to drive plays for the Lady Raiders with the starters resting.
This has allowed the Lady Raiders to score in different ways this season and put more points on the board and thus win more games. Another thing they do is they slow the game down especially on offense so they can execute their systems easier and can read plays a little bit better.
This has gone a long way with the Lady Raiders’ success as they look much more organized and structured in their game this season. Last season the Lady Raiders offense was often chaotic and unorganized, and it led to a lot of turnovers. This season they have done a complete 180 and turned it all around, leading to five wins through 15 games this season.
Obviously, this team wants to continue to improve but the improvements they have made from 2024 to 2025 are undeniable and deserve to be recognized.
Thank you all so much for reading the Huddle I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays.
