Cardinals pick up first district win

The Columbus Cardinals start their district schedule off right by picking up a win over the Tidehaven Tigers.

The Cardinals defeated the Tigers with a score of 38-32 in a very intense matchup for both teams.

District games are always tight contest, and this one was no different when the Cardinals and the Tigers took to the court. They are quite familiar with one another, having played against each other so many times over the years.

The game started out very intensely and neither team gave any space to the other and kept the score close. While the defense was tight, it put an emphasis on ball movement because it was one of the only ways these teams could get clean looks at the basket.

The teams went back-and-forth all game long trading leads and swinging the momentum to each team’s side. The Cards never panicked in this situation and just continued to play their game.

They moved the ball effectively, defended and rebounded well, and most importantly they stayed out of foul trouble. They did not give anything to the Tigers for free, and it was a big factor in them coming away with the win Friday night.

They pushed this team to the brink while also challenging themselves to stay true to their game plan and come away with the win. They showed a lot of mental toughness and when it was all said and done, the Cards were victorious capturing their first district win of the season and their first win in 2026.

This win also came on the road, so the Cards got a hug confidence boost by beating a district opponent while on the road in enemy territory.

The Cards will look to pick up their second district win of the year when they take on district rival, the Hallettsville Brahmas, on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m.
