Happy New Year. St. Anthony Saints are back in the classroom and ready for the second semester of school.
The Spring semester brings lots of happenings for students of all ages. Soon, students in grades 1-8 will begin practicing for this year’s PSIA competition. Junior High students have already tried out for the One-Act Play competition, which is held in April this year. SAS 2nd graders will also begin prepping for their upcoming Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Communion.
SAS 7th graders are currently working on their Texas Revolution Essays for the Daughters of the Republic of Texas essay contest and local DRT member Donna Pustejovsky recently loaned replicas of Texas Revolutionary flags to the class. Students are studying the flags for their symbolism and how they brought about strong feelings of patriotism and belonging.
The Saints’ basketball teams are back on the court having recently played St. Rose and Immanuel Lutheran. Today, the Saints will host St. Ludmila at home beginning at 5pm. SAS is trying out a new sport this year…indoor soccer! Games promise excitement with a shorter playing field and spectators on guard for flying balls. The team has already played 2 games and will play against Our Lady of the Gulf in Port Lavaca tomorrow at 5:30pm.
Mark your calendar. SAS PTC is holding its annual Gala on Valentine’s Day this year! “A Night in Tropical Paradise” promises a fabulous evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing along with live and silent auctions. Tickets can be purchased from any SAS PTC member or from the SAS office. Sponsorship opportunities are available as well!
Upcoming events: Honors/High Honors Awards presented after Jan. 16 Children’s Mass. No school on Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. SAS Advisory Council meeting on Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. All are welcome at Children’s Mass each Friday at 8:15 a.m.
“For a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace.” [ISA 9:5]

December Saint Athletes of the Month were (L to R) Cormac Barten, Hayes Kridel and Taitlyn Beauchamp.

DRT member Donna Pustejovsky loans Texas Revolutionary flag replicas to SAS 7th grade Social Studies teacher Danette Cantu.
