The Weimar Ladycats played two district games recently, picking up one win and one loss during that time.

They took on district rival, Shiner and then hit the road to matchup with Flatonia in some highly competitive district action.

Vs. Shiner, 54-33, W In their first district game of the week, the Ladycats hosted their rivals, Shiner, and this game was intense. From the opening tip off, both teams were aggressive defensively and did not give each other any breathing room.

Shiner started to frustrate the Ladycats a little bit early in the game, but the Ladycats showed a lot of mental toughness. They stuck to their game and did their best to stay out of foul trouble and eventually the court started to open up for them.

The Ladycats have been a team that moved the ball around the court well all season long, and this game was no different. They got a lot of quality looks at the basket but more importantly they took full advantage of those quality looks and scored when they had their chances.

Shiner started making a push late in the game but as they showed their mental toughness before the Ladycats started to show their physical toughness. They were aggressive on defense forcing Shiner to turn the ball over a couple of times. They again stayed out of foul trouble for the most part and were able to seal the victory and pick up their fourth district win of the year.

With the win in their back pocket, the Ladycats shifted their focus to their next game against Flatonia looking to keep their winning streak alive.

@ Flatonia, 63-32, L As the old saying goes, “All good things must come to an end,” and it is no different for winning streaks. The Ladycats entered enemy territory feeling good about their game after sporting a four-game winning streak to start their district schedule.

They were averaging around 54 points in a game during that time, but in this game, they scored only 32 points. Now, this is not a bad thing because the Ladycats have bounced back from losses before.

This loss is a good reminder for them that when you are on top and winning a lot of games, teams will target you and try to steal a win from you. They got a lot of good game film to learn from their mistakes in this loss and will look to jump back in the win column soon as their district schedule rolls on.

The Ladycats are scheduled to take on the Ganado Maidens on their home court on Friday. Jan. 23, at 6:15 p.m.
