The Columbus Cardinals football team played one heck of a season, and now they are receiving their All-District honors from it.
They had 14 players selected to be on the Offensive All-District team for the 2025 season with two of them receiving individual honors.
Leading things off is the Co-Offensive MVP award that belongs to Cardinals junior quarterback Jack Schobel. Schobel had some big shoes to fill stepping in for his older brother Adam, and he met the challenge head on.
He got the job done with both his arm and his legs, and he will look to come back even stronger as a quarterback next season. Schobel had a great year, but a lot of thanks goes to his offensive line.
They kept him protected and safe from pass rushers this season, and one in particular did so well that he earned the Offensive Lineman of the Year award. That player was none other than junior Keyon Hemphill Woods.
Hemphill Woods is a towering and imposing figure on the Cardinals offense line and while he did a good job protecting his quarterback and opening up lanes for his running backs. What’s even more impressive is that he hardly had any penalties called on him this season.
Hemphill Woods was also listed in the Dave Campbell’s top 150 rising stars for the 2026 season so look for big things from this young man next year.
That leads now to the First Offensive All-District team and the Cards selected were, junior Zayde Cunningham, junior Christopher Quinn, sophomore Weston Krpec, sophomore Ty Wiggs, senior Bryan Salazar and junior Brennan Hicks.
Going back to the offensive line, the Cards had one player win Offensive Lineman of the Year while three others were chosen to the First All-District team. Cunningham, Quinn and Krpec were all major factors on the offensive line this season.
The Cards utilized their run game a lot this season and it was successful for them thanks in large part to the offensive line. They opened up a lot of lanes for their talented running backs to sprint through to pick up large chunks of yards and even find the endzone.
Then there is Ty Wiggs who was a very reliable target for Schobel this season. Wiggs’ size and fearless attitude came in handy whenever the Cards needed to make a quick throw and get some yards.
Wiggs was always willing to take a hit to make a play, and it benefitted the Cards greatly this season.
Salazar was a part of the Cards backfield this season that saw a ton of action. He along with the other running backs tormented opposing defenses all season long.
Salazar is a big kid too, so tackling him was not always the most fun thing to do because he was so big and strong he’d just run people over and pick up a large number of yards each game.
Then there is Hicks who did almost everything within the Cards offense this season. He ran the ball, caught the ball, threw the ball and excelled at all of them. The Cards relied on his athleticism heavily this season, and he answered the challenge helping lead the Cards to the Semi-Final round of the playoffs.
Finally, there was the Second All-District Offensive team which saw six Cardinals chosen. Those six players were senior Rylan Carruthers, sophomore Ramiro Lopez, senior Brody Vinklarek, junior Trey Kohleffel, sophomore Doc Cantu and junior Ivan Valenzuela.
Going back to the offensive line, the Cards had two more linemen selected for the All-District team. Lopez and Valenzuela were both solid linemen for the Cards and like the other linemen listed, they hardly had any penalties called on them.
Then the two wide receivers, Carruthers and Koheffel were chosen because they made a lot of contested catches this season. But also, they were not scared to block down field which is an underrated ability for receivers to have.
Then finally the two running back, Vinklarek and Cantu. Vinklarek plays football like a pitbull, he’s mean, he’s tough and he’s got both bark and bite in his game. He was fearless this season and whenever he was handed the ball, he made sure the opposition paid the price for trying to tackle him.
Cantu was a little bit different although he also has some dog in his game as well. he relies a more on his shiftiness and speed to make defenders miss and then burn past them for extra yards. Cantu was pure electricity to watch with the ball in his hands and earned a spot on the All-District team.
The Cards are proud of themselves for receiving All-District honors, but they will be back next fall, hungry for more.
