Colorado County voters required to reapply for mail ballots

Local election officials are reminding residents that applications to vote by mail expire at the end of each year, requiring voters to reapply annually. Officials are urging voters to complete this step promptly to avoid delays in receiving and returning their ballots.

Eligible voters include those 65 or older, individuals with disabilities, expectant mothers near Election Day, residents who will be away from the county during voting, and those confined in jail or civilly committed but otherwise eligible to vote.

Texas election law requires voters to provide identification numbers on both their application and ballot carrier envelope. Acceptable forms include a Texas Driver License number, Personal ID number, or the last four digits of a Social Security Number. At least one must match the voter registration record.

Applications can be requested by calling the Colorado County Elections Office at 979-732-6860 or downloading online at co. colorado.tx.us. Officials emphasize that the office must speak directly with the voter before mailing an application.
