Around 22 members gathered for Weimar Book Club’s first meeting, Jan. 12, at Weimar Public Library.

Members munched on refreshments and discussed the selected reading for January, “The Lion Women of Tehran” by Marjan Kamali. Lydia Ford, a member of the Friends of the Weimar Public Library, founded the book club that will have alternating discussion leaders.

“I think we had an awesome turnout… I think it was a great start,” Ford said.

Other attendees expressed similar enthusiasm over the first meeting. Linda Kobersky ,who led this meeting’s discussion, said she thinks everyone will come back.

“Oh, I loved it,” Kobersky said. “...I think all of us will [come back].”

Ford said the total participation had nearly reached the library’s capacity to comfortably fit all the members. She said other than that, she encountered “no hiccups” at the first meeting.

“If we had two more people, it probably would have been an issue,” Ford said.

Ford discussed the possibility of expanding the club to help avoid overcrowding in future club meetings. She previously said the club might have to spl it into mult iple groups based on genre. Ford said she hopes the club will continue to meet and “lead to lasting friendships.”

“Seeing how many people are hungry to be a part of something and how many readers there are, I would say I hope every small town does something like this,” Ford said.

The Weimar Book Club’s next meeting will be on Monday, Feb. 9, at 6 p.m. to discuss “Theo of Golden” by Allen Levi. Levi’s website describes the book as “the endearing story of a curious old man who quietly moves into a southern city and, for reasons unknown to anyone but himself, undertakes a campaign of anonymous generosity.”
