This week is recognized nationally as Catholic Schools Week, and this year’s theme is “United in Faith and Community”. Each year during Catholic Schools Week, SAS celebrates Catholic education with a special Mass, field day, dress up days and other activities, including a special service project. Each day focuses on a different piece of the Catholic school “pie”: Last Sunday’s events (CSW Mass and Open House, Celebrating our Parish) were rescheduled for other days this week, due to the winter weather.
On Monday, students dressed up as either “country” or “country club” and tackled the Young Saints Escape room with their teams. To Celebrate our Community, the CSW teams are collecting items for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter as a special service project. Each team has “adopted” a special animal for the week and are bringing items needed by the shelter.
Celebrating our students was yesterday’s emphasis, as teams competed in a trivia game in the afternoon. Another fun event was “Dictionary Dress-Up”, and one student from each team was chosen to compete for the best overall depiction of the definition of their chosen word. Last evening, SAS welcomed families to visit classrooms during the rescheduled Open House.
Today, Saints are Celebrating our Nation by wearing red, white and blue. Planned activities include a patriotic rosary in the morning (led by the 8th grade) and a talent show this afternoon.
Field Day is tomorrow and teams have been anticipating this competition all year! Among games like Noodle Hockey, Waddle Hopper and the Obstacle Course, students will have the opportunity to Celebrate Vocations by preparing appreciation notes for local priests, deacons and seminarians. The day will conclude with a pep rally at 2:45.
This coming Friday, SAS will conclude a busy week with a special Catholic Schools Week Mass at 8:15 a.m. After the team awards ceremony at 9:30 a.m., SAS will Celebrate the faculty, staff and volunteers by having the students settle in for a movie in the gym, giving the adults a breather after a wild week.
Tickets are available for “A Night in Tropical Paradise” Gala on Feb. 14. A $50 ticket promises an evening of cocktails, dinner and dancing.
Upcoming events: KC Free Throw Contest on 1/29 @ 5pm in the SAS Gym. St. Roch CDA/KC Turkey & Dressing Dinner on Feb. 1 at 11 a.m. at Mentz. All are welcome at Children’s Mass each Friday at 8:15 a.m.
