The Rice Raiders picked up back-to-back district wins after losing a district game to the Columbus Cardinals.
The Raiders defeated the Tidehaven Tigers and the Hallettsville Brahmas in back-to-back games to improve to a 2-4 district record.
Vs. Tidehaven, 47-38, W
In their first game, the Raiders hosted TIdehaven and they came into this game with a chip on their shoulder. They played this game after losing to their cross-county rival, Columbus Cardinals.
In the game against the Cards the Raiders played a very string game just had a hard time rebounding which was their biggest downfall against the Cards. Against Tidehaven though they came out firing on all cylinders.
There were times when the score got close, but the Raiders never panicked and just kept playing their game. They rebounded really well against Tidehaven and got a ton of second chance points.
Then on the flip side they were making some good defensive plays that lead to offensive opportunities. It was a very complete game by the Raiders, and this gave them a ton of confidence going into their next game against Tidehaven.
In the game against Hallettsville, the Raiders started out a tad slow but eventually found their groove.
Vs. Hallettsville, 65-55, W
In the game against Hallettsville, the Raiders found themselves in an early hole against Hallettsville. They were trailing 14-4 with three minutes left in the first quarter, but the Raiders were not going to give up.
The Raiders weathered the early storm from the Brahmas and started to find their game in those final three minutes. After trailing 14-4, the Raiders stormed back and made the score 15-14 by the end of the first quarter.
They continued to push and by the end of the second quarter the Raiders held a 33-27 lead into halftime. Coming out of halftime, the Raiders put the game to rest as they continued to be effective on offense while shutting down Tidehaven on defense.
This led them to a 65-55 win for their second district win of the year and get them right back into the playoff race. The Raiders are still eyeing a playoff spot and will look to pick up another district win this coming week.
The Raiders will host their nest district game against Industrial on Tuesday, Jan. 27, with a tip off time set for 7:30 p.m.
