The Weimar Wildcats picked up their second district win of the year by defeating the Ganado Indians.
The Wildcats beat the Indians with a score of 49-35 to keep their playoff hopes alive as they stay focused on their goal of making the playoffs.
The first quarter started, and it was fast and furious as the teams went back-andforth in the first quarter. The Wildcats found a way to score 10 points in the first to have a strong offensive quarter to start the game.
Defensively the Wildcats held the Indians to nine points, so the Wildcats were able to carry a 10-9 lead into the second quarter. But the Indians came back in the second quarter and outscored the Wildcats.
They outscored the Wildcats but not by much as the second quarter had a score of 9-8. This tied the game up at 18-18 going into halftime, and the Wildcats have been in similar situations before.
The Wildcats have either been up by a couple points, down by a couple points or tied going into halftime and have struggled a bit this season to get over the hump in the second half of games.
This game was going to be different though, and it was evident when the Wildcats came out of the locker room after halftime. They looked a lot looser and not as tensed up and looked poised and determined before the third quarter started.
The good body language from the Wildcats translated into strong play on the court as they played in a strong third quarter. The Wildcats outscored the Indians 14-10 in the third quarter to carry a 32-28 lead into the fourth and final quarter.
The Wildcats then locked down the court in the fourth quarter and took all the momentum in game. They limited the Indians to seven points in the final quarter which allowed the Wildcats offense to play a little bit looser and knock down some shots.
The Wildcats scored 17 points in the final quarter to put the cherry on top of this great team win to give them their second district win of the year. The Wildcats are currently in fifth place in the district standings and still have some work to do to get into a playoff spot.
They remain determined and hungry to make the playoffs and will be looking to pick up another district win to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 6, when they take on Flatonia at 7:30p.m. looking for their next district win.
