Lady Raiders lose back-to-back

The Rice Lady Raiders are still hunting for their first district win of the season after dropping back-toback district games.

The Lady Raiders took on Tidehaven and Hallettsville, dropping both games to fall to a 0-8 district record.

Vs, Tidehaven, 47-18, L In their first game, the Lady Raiders took on Tidehaven on their home court and unfortunately came away with a loss. This comes after the Lady Raiders gave their cross-county rivals, Columbus Lady Cardinals, a competitive game.

Against Tidehaven though their offense struggled to find a rhythm and only scored 18 points in the loss to Tidehaven. They Lady Raiders are still figuring out their offensive system, and they are figuring out slowly but surely.

The problem is they have to slow down the game sometimes on offense to make sure they are moving to the correct spots and making the right reads to get open looks. Because they slow their game down, it makes it just that much easier for opposing teams to anticipate plays and force some turnovers that lead to points.

Despite this thought the Lady Raiders do end up getting some very quality open looks at the basket. They just have to find a way to hit the bottom of the net, especially on shots that are five feet or closer to the basket as well as their free throws.

All of which are fixable and despite losing their next game to Hallettsville, they had a much more effective offensive game.

Vs. Hallettsville, 52-25, L This game was fun for multiple reasons, one being that the score is the same if you read it forwards and backwards. But the most important reason why it was a fun game was because the Lady Raiders played one of their more complete games this season.

Yes, they gave up 52 points but let’s ignore that because this is a young team and there will be some growing pains like this. It’s the fact that they never gave up despite the score and just kept playing their game and ended up scoring 25 points after a game where they only scored 18 points.

It shows their mental toughness, but it also shows their desire to play their best every single game. Even though they are not having the best season it’s laying some good foundation that the Lady Raiders are going to play until the final buzzer no matter what the score is and it shows just how bright the Lady Raiders future is going to be with a mentality like that.

The Lady Raiders look ahead in their schedule where they will travel to play Columbus on Friday, Feb. 6, looking to give their home fans a treat with their first district win.
