The Colorado County Elections Department, along with counties across Texas, is working closely with the Texas Secretary of State’s Office to prepare and mail renewal voter registration certificates for the 2026– 2027 cycle. Due to the state’s redevelopment of the voter registration system, delays are occurring statewide. The new system represents a major software overhaul, and as with any large-scale implementation, technical issues and unexpected delays have arisen.
Under Section 14.001 of the Texas Election Code, voter registrars are required to issue renewal voter registration certificates on or after November 15 but before December 6 of each odd-numbered year. At this time, the mass-mailout function within the state’s voter registration system is not operational. The state is actively working with its vendor to resolve this issue, along with other system concerns.
The Colorado County Elections Department does not yet have a projected timeline for when voter registration certificates will be mailed. The department asks for the public’s patience during this transition. Voters do not need to re-register. “Please be assured as we approach a very busy election year that our priorities include an accurate voter roll and election integrity,” said Rebecka LaCourse, County Election Administrator. Voters are reminded that an acceptable form of photo identification is required at the polls; however, a voter registration certificate is not required to vote.
Residents are encouraged to visit the county’s website for up-to-date election information and additional voter resources. Anyone with questions regarding their voter registration status may contact the Elections Department by emailing elections@ co. colorado. tx.us or by calling (979) 732- 6860.
