The Navidad Valley CattleWomen offered a collegiate scholarship for the third year, this being a special one as this was the inaugural Elsie Farek Collegiate Scholarship named in honor of one of NVCW’s founding members.
The recipient was Grant Kubala, currently a junior Animal Science major at Texas A&M and a graduate of Schulenburg High School. Grant’s exposure to the cattle industry started in his early years, working with his family to raise commercial cattle, exhibiting market and commercial steers and heifers across the state, and now competing in collegiate livestock judging for TAMU.
Prior to this year, Grant spent his first two years of college at Blinn College in Brenham, where he had the opportunity to compete for one of most renowned junior college livestock judging teams in the world.
This led to the opportunity to be named as one of fifteen junior college All-Americans, which is a combination of excellence in academics and livestock judging. After college, Grant’s goal is to come back to the Fayette County area. His focus in school currently is in nutrition, with goals of becoming a ruminant nutritionist.
He hopes to continue to grow his backgrounding and stocker cattle operation. CattleWomen are honored to support his continued education and look forward to watching his impact on the beef industry now and in the future.
The Navidad Valley CattleWomen, a local chapter of the Texas Cattlewomen, is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes the beef industry. The Navidad Valley local works to support local youth with scholarships and provide quality information on the industry and how to incorporate beef into a healthy diet. Additionally, they work to support the community with targeted outreach projects that include a beefy twist.
