The Weimar Ladycats are heading back to the playoffs after their most recent win over Shiner.
Winning is always fun but beating a district rival to punch their ticket to the postseason is even better.
The Ladycats came away with a 42-40 win over Siner to clinch their spot in the playoffs and set their sights on the big prize. They just missed out on a district championship too as they finished just behind Flatonia in the district standings.
In the game against Shiner the Ladycats were on the road in a loud Shiner gym, but they did not let that get to them. They came out and simply played their game and took the opportunities given to them.
It’s a district rivalry game so it was going to be a close game regardless but this game was a playoff atmosphere and the Ladycats handled the pressure and the bright lights perfectly.
All season long, the Ladycats have dominated losing only eight games overall and only two district games this entire season. They played a complete game that was led by their elite ball movement on the offensive side of the ball.
They coupled that with some aggressive defense, and that was a recipe for success as they are heading back to the playoffs. While they have elite playmakers and stout defense, another thing the Ladycats did was play disciplined basketball.
They stayed out of foul trouble which is part of being disciplined on the basketball court for sure. But they were disciplined in their systems; everyone had a job to do on the floor, and they all bought in and did their job.
They trusted each other and made the smart play and not necessarily the pretty play. They grinded wins out this season, and it was a big reason why they finished the year with less than 10 losses.
They earned a playoff spot with their play and will do their best to try and bring a State Championship back to Weimar.
