Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football released the new district for the upcoming 2026 season.
The Columbus Cardinals find themselves in a new district with familiar foes, so let’s take a look at what is different.
In 2025, the Cardinals posted a 4-0 record defeating Yoakum, Hitchcock, Hallettsville and Hempstead. The Cards then went on a great playoff run that was actually ended by Yoakum, who went on to win the State Championship.
In 2026, the Cards will still be facing off against Hempstead but will play three different teams. They will be facing Edna, Palacios and Sweeny in addition to Hempstead in their “new” district.
It’s a new district for the Cards, but they are very familiar with all of these teams as the Cards usually end up playing them at some point in the season. They typically play them across all sports too, so there is a ton of familiarity there for the Cards.
They also get a chance to renew their rivalry with the Edna Cowboys, which is always a must-watch football game when those two teams face off.
With their district opponents set, the Cardinals van now begin coming up with practices and game plans to get their team ready for a tough district schedule.
