The Columbus Lady Cardinals hosted the Rice Lady Raiders this past Friday for their second game of their two-game season series.

The Lady Cards continued to roll in their district schedule as they defeated the Lady Raiders with a score of 69-18.

Lady Cards Since the Lady Cards won the game, let’s take a look at their side of things first. This was the Lady Cards’ 10th win in a row and helped them strengthen their grip on the number one seed in the district standings.

The Lady Cards started the game out strong and looked very comfortable on their home court. They started the game off hot from three-point land as Anaya Garnder and Presley Drozd knocked down a couple of three pointers to extend the lady Cards lead early in the game.

They continued to add points from inside the paint too, and it allowed the Lady Cards to carry a 36-13 lead into halftime. Their offense was just as string int he second half of the game, scoring 33 more points to arrive at 69 total points when the final buzzer sounded.

In addition to the offense, the Lady Cards defense played one heck of a game as they held the Lady Raiders to only 18 points in the game. They also came up with several steals throughout the game that led to points on the offensive end of the floor.

They held the Lady Raiders in check so much that the Lady Raiders had to pass the ball around the perimeter and hope a hole in the Lady Cards defense to appear, and they could take advantage of it and try to get some points on the board.

The Lady Cards stood tall though and were able to hang on for the win Friday night.

Lady Raiders The Lady Raiders are still searching for their first district win of the year and Friday night they had their hands full trying to contain the Lady Cards. The Lady Raiders were aggressive on defense and did what they could to hold off the Lady Cards.

Their biggest problem though was their lack of offensive efficiency against the stout Lady Cards defense. The Lady Raiders finished the game with 22% field goal percentage, 20% 3-pt percentage and 33% free throw percentage.

It was a tough task trying to come into the hottest team in the district building and come away with a win. But it was even more difficult when the Lady Raiders were not making their shots.

The good news is this is a fixable able problem, and the Lady Raiders have plenty of talent to fix it. They have one more game to win a district game, but they will once again have their hands full when they take on the second-place team in the district.

The Lady Cards will be back on their home court when they take on Yoakum, and the Lady Raiders will be back on the road to take on Tidehaven with both games on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 6:15 p.m.
