1. Check your voter registration.
Visit www.texas.gov to check your voter registration by entering your full name, date of birth and either your county and zip code, your driver’s license number or your voter ID number.
If your voter status is marked as active, you are eligible to vote in this election.
2. Determine your precinct.
The same webpage will also list your precinct. A precinct is a geographical subdivision of a larger voting district that allows officials to more effectively conduct elections and report results.
3. Pick your polling location.
In Colorado County, early voting is not precinct-specific, so you can vote at any of the three early voting locations. However, if you want to vote on Election Day, March 3, you have to go to your precinct-specific location. See the polling locations for more information.
The www.texas.gov dashboard will also have an option to view voting and early voting locations for a selected election and date(s).
4. Decide when you will vote.
5. Gather needed documents.
In Texas, Voters must bring and present a government-issued photo ID, like a driver’s license or passport, that has expired by no more than four years. Voters who do not possess an acceptable form of photo ID and cannot obtain one, may present a supporting form of ID and fill out a Reasonable Impediment Declaration.
Reasonable impediments include a lack of required documentation, lack of transportation, disability, family responsibilities and work schedule. Supporting forms of ID include: a certified domestic birth certificate or a document confirming birth admissible in a court of law, a current utility bill, a bank statement, a government check, a paycheck, or a government document that shows the voter’s name and an address.
6. Preview your ballot.
Preview the Republican and Democratic Primary ballots in our guide to see what options will be on the ballot. Research candidates and questions.
If you would like to plan your vote in advance, write down your chosen options on a small piece of paper. Cell phones are not allowed while at the ballot machine.
