The Columbus Lady Cardinals have officially captured a District Championship after they defeated Yoakum 69-41 Tuesday night.
With a 13-1 record the Lady Cards are officially District Champions, and it was a great showing by them this season to win that championship.
After losing one district game to Tidehaven earlier this season, the Lady Cards went on an 11-game winning streak to win the championship. Over the last four games, the Lady Cards offense really came to life.
They averaged around 65 points a game on offense as they found their rhythm in the back half of their district schedule. Meanwhile, their defense gave up an average of 35 points in a game, which is a recipe for winning a lot of games.
Tuesday night was no different when they took on Yoakum as their offense game out firing on all cylinders. They jumped out to an early lead and then their defense suffocated Yoakum to seal the victory.
The Lady Cards scored 69 points for the second time in four games to give them a huge confidence boost heading into the playoffs. The biggest factor in their offensive success is their ball movement.
They are great at finding each other on the floor and then finding space to shoot an uncontested shot. More importantly though, they are knocking down those shots to help build their leads and keep the offensive pressure on the opposition.
With a District Championship under their belt, the Lady Cards are hungry for more, and they are eyeing the big game at the end of the season. That journey starts with the Bi-District Championship.
They have a long journey ahead of them, but the Lady Cards are battle tested and talented enough to handle any challenge as they begin their playoff journey.
