The Columbus Cardinals’ winning streak was snapped by the Yoakum Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
With a final score of 6158, the Cards lost their first district game of the season but still sit on top of the district standings.
The Bulldogs have had the Cards number all year long as they eliminated them in the football playoffs. Now, they are handing them their first district loss of the season on the basketball court.
Despite the loss, the Cards played until the final whistle and made things close in this game. They found themselves in an early hole like they did against the Rice Raiders but continued to fight throughout the game.
They never gave up and that is the mark of a good team because even though they are down on the scoreboard, they are still trying to give themselves a chance in this game. They clawed their way back into this game late and finished the game with only a threepoint loss.
To lose by only one shot has to sting, but there is nothing the Cards can do about it now. The game is over, and it is time to move onto the next game and get this train back on its tracks.
The Cards have only two games left on their schedule at the time of writing, and if they win one of those games, they will lock up the District Championship. So, they have their eyes on the prize eyeing a District Championship and a playoff berth as they look to get back to the State Championship game.
The Cards will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 7:30 p.m. when they host Industrial on their home court for their last district game of the year.
