Approximately 200 community members gathered on Saturday, Feb. 7, for the Happy Days Sock Hop, a free, family-friendly event made possible through the collaboration of 10 area nonprofits and local businesses. The event brought music, dancing, and meaningful connection to the community at Schulenburg Hall.
The Sock Hop celebrated togetherness across generations, welcoming children, parents, seniors, and neighbors to enjoy classic 1950s-style music, open dancing, community networking, and friendly dance contests. The event also provided an opportunity for local nonprofit organizations to connect with families, share resources, and strengthen relationships within the local community.
Adding to the lively atmosphere, dancers from On Pointe volunteered their time to help attendees practice popular 1950s dance styles, including the Twist and swing dances. Their guidance encouraged participation from dancers of all ages and experience levels and helped keep the dance floor active throughout the afternoon. On Pointe volunteers included Sophia Mick, Kamryn Kelly, Mia Westfall, and Layla Pietsch.
The event featured participation from a variety of local nonprofit organizations dedicated to supporting families, children, seniors, the arts, and overall community well-being. Organizations represented included Turtle Wing Foundation, Arts for Rural Texas, Schulenburg Historical Museum, Senior Connections, ACCSS, Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum, And Then, God’s Embrace Ministries, BRIDGE, and Parents as Teachers of Rural South Central Texas (PATRSCTX).
“Our goal was to create a space where families could come together, have fun, and feel connected to the many organizations that support them,” said Kristi McBride, Executive Director of PATRSCTX. “Seeing so many people on the dance floor, smiling, laughing, and making memories truly reflects the heart of our community.”
