Weimar contracts firm for sports complex development

Weimar City Council contracted an engineering firm for assistance in developing a sports complex and other park improvements and discussed other city updates, Thursday, Feb. 12.

The council approved a contract with Burditt Land | Place for the planning, designing and construction- related services in support of the city’s “application to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Grant Program for the development of a sports complex and related park improvements.” City Manager David Mason said the company was the only one to respond to the city’s Request for Quote and scored “very well” upon review.

“We are very excited about the project and excited about the community too,” company president Charles Burditt said. “…We look at communities and the trees and the landscape and the natural resources around, and this is going to be an incredible park.”

Burditt said his company primarily operates in non-urban communities and has constructed numerous sports complexes before. He and other representatives previewed the construction site 10 days prior to the council meeting. Burditt said he enjoyed driving down the streets, interacting with local merchants and more.

Other updates

Mason reported that the Texas Police Chiefs Association is currently interviewing three candidates for the role. If the candidates perform well, the association will pass them along to city staff for interviews.

The Public Works Department will continue ongoing work on the water lines, specifically the water valves. Public Works Director Michael Beyette said workers are lubricating the valves to properly open and close for repairs due to leaks.

Future city events include Rock the Block on March 27, Texas Independence Relay event from March 28-29, and the city’s paper Shred It event and Spring Clean-Up on April 25.
