The Columbus Lady Cardinals won the Bi-District Championship to begin their playoff journey on the right foot.
The Lady Cards defeated Luling 78-36 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs as they moved onto the Area round.
In this time of the year the Lady Cards will be facing win or go home scenarios throughout these playoffs, and they are playing with that urgency. For the past couple of years, the Lady Cards have been in the mix for a State Title but have fallen just short.
They understand how important these games are, and they came into this game against Luling with that sense of urgency.
Defensively the Lady Cards have been playing at a different level, and they suffocated Luling’s offense. The Lady Cards defense led the game with 15 steals, all of which led to points of the offensive end of the floor.
They also led the game with 42 rebounds and that played a major factor in the Lady Cards capturing the Bi-District Championship. The Lady Cards defense held Luling to only 36 points and in some games that’s enough points to win the game.
But the Lady Cards offense has also been playing well, and they scored 78 points to blowout their first-round opponent. The Lady Cards played Luling in La Grange, so it was close to home for them, and they looked very comfortable on the court.
Offensively, the Lady Cards found themselves up 8-0 with six and half minutes left in the first quarter. The Lady Cards continued to light up the scoreboard and found themselves with an 18-2 lead with four minutes left in the first quarter.
The Lady Cards carried this momentum with them for the rest of the game and ended up sealing a victory and now look ahead to their second-round matchup.
