The Rice Raiders have officially punched their ticket to the playoffs after defeating the Palacios Sharks last Tuesday night.
Recently the Raiders have been scratching and clawing trying to get themselves into a playoff spot and on Tuesday night they accomplished their goal.
They defeated the Sharks with a score of 6837 in a blowout 31-point win in their final district game. The win pushed them into fourth place in the district standings and are now set to enter the playoffs.
The Raiders came out with a bit of a chip on their shoulder in the game against the Sharks because they knew they were a good enough team to make the playoffs. They came out firing on all cylinders to start the game and jumped out to an early lead in the game.
Once they got the lead in the game, they never gave it back to the Sharks and just continued to dominate the game on both ends of the floor. Defensively the Raiders played a great game and did not make things easy for the Sharks offense.
They also did not commit many fouls to give the Sharks free throw opportunities. They played a very clean and strong game again the Sharks, and it allowed their offense to take over the game.
The Raiders offense stepped up big time in these last three games to go on a three-game winning streak to push themselves into a playoff spot. Over these last three games, the Raiders offense scored 36, 51 and then finally 68 points to go on a three-game winning streak and earn a spot in the playoffs.
The Raiders now set their sights on their playoff journey, which begins in the Bi-District round next week.
The Raiders will take on the Poth Pirates on Tuesday, Feb. 24, with the Bi-District Championship on the line, and tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Seguin High School.
