The Weimar Ladycats returned to the win column with a huge win over their district rivals Schulenburg Lady Horns.
The Ladycats needed only three innings to defeat the Lady Horns, and they finished the game with a 17-0 statement win.
The Ladycats did all their damage in the bottom of the first inning where they scored all 17 runs. After back-toback singles from Alazay Moreno and Taitlyn Mican, Sam Rangel also hit a single that drove Moreno home to open the scoring.
Then a double from Faith Cantwell brought home two more runs to extend the Ladycats lead to 3-0. That was followed up by Paityn Hudec getting hit by a pitch and then Evani Nino hitting a double that scored two more runs.
With the score sitting at 5-0, the Ladycats continued the offensive pressure as Ty’ Rianna Rhodes hit a home run to make it a 7-0 ball game. Zariah Sims was walked after Rhodes’ homer and Sims then stole second and then third to get in a scoring position.
A single from Kylie Ohnheiser then hit a single to bring Sims home to make the score 8-0, and the best part is the Ladycats had no outs on the board. Moreno was hit by a pitch then Mican hit another single followed by a Rangel walk that brought Ohnheiser home to make it 9-0.
Then came the Ladycats first out of the inning with Cantwell striking out which was followed up by their second out which was a sacrifice fly ball that ended up bringing Moreno home to make the score 10-0.
Nino made it to first base on an error and that brought Mican home followed by a single from Rhodes to bring home Emma Rerich who was courtesy running for Rangel. This brought the score to 13-0, but the Ladycats offense was not done just yet.
Back-to-back singles from Sims and Ohnheiser brought home two more runs to make it 150. Then a double from Mican drove home two more runs to arrive at 17-0. Then all eyes were on Moreno who did an excellent job preventing Schulenburg from getting back into this game.
She pitched all three innings for the Ladycats, giving up zero runs on three hits while striking out three batters. She kept the shutout intact, and the game was called because of the Mercy Rule from the Ladycats.
This was a huge win for the Ladycats as they jumped back into the win column and will look to make it two in a row when they take on Moulton on Tuesday, March 10, at 6 p.m.
