Weimar ISD to repave high school parking lot, elects unopposed board members

Weimar Independent School District (ISD) approved for the paving and asphalt resurfacing of Weimar High School’s student parking lot and elected the unopposed school board candidates, Monday, March 9.

Parking lot

The board approved a proposal from M&M Asphalt and Paving to resurface another 26,000 square feet of the high school parking lot. M&M Asphalt and Paving recently laid a little under 10,000 square feet of hot mix asphalt to address the worst spots. The project will also include striping the new lot, painting and installing approximately 80 parking curbs with spikes, and adding a concrete island about 30 feet by four feet. Seelke said the work would likely be completed over spring break.

“I know the asphalt part will be really good, and I think will also help with some of the traffic control,” Superintendent Chase Seelke said. “It’s not necessarily on the school days. Our students do a really good job of parking in their spots. It’s really game nights when we have the biggest issues.”

The company offered to continue their work at cost for $86,300 due to having extra materials from repaving the nearby new subdivision.

Board election The board certified Place 1 school board trustee James Sanders and Place 2 trustee Brian Christen as unopposed candidates for the May 2 school board election. The board then approved to cancel the May election.

“Congratulations to both Jim and Brian on another three years,” Seelke said. “I appreciate y’all’s service.”
