The Columbus Cardinals picked up a much-needed win over the Tidehaven Tigers after losing to New Waverly by one run.
The Cards picked up a 5-1 win over the Tigers, and they actually shut the Tigers out for six straight innings.
The game started off scoreless in the first inning as both teams tried to find their footing in this game. The Cards were the road team so at the top of the second inning they opened the scoring.
The lone run came courtesy of Wyatt Tipton, who hammered a ball deep into left field. He sent the ball over the fence for a home run and gave the Cards a 1-0 lead in the second.
The Cards came up big on defense as they converted on a double play to end the inning and put them back on offense. In the top of the third inning, Ryan Carter led off with a single followed by Jayden Spaulding getting hit by a pitch.
Britton Wolters then hit a single to load the bases for the Cards with only one out on the board. Tipton continued to have the hot bat as he singled and drove home two runs to put the Cards up 3-0.
The Tigers then converted on a double play to end the inning with the Cards leading 3-0 going into the fourth. The Cards defense stayed strong and only faced three batters before going back on offense.
With the bases loaded again for the Cards in the fourth inning, Brody Tribe came up to bat, and he was then walked which brought home a run. This was the only run the Cards scored in the fourth inning, but the Cards successfully extended their lead to 4-0.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning where the Tigers scored their first and only run of the game. The Cards then responded with a run in the seventh inning Weston Krpec hit an RBI single which drove home Shane Kulhanek for the fifth and final run of the game. This win improved the Cars record to 7-6 and they will look to stack more wins in the coming weeks.
The Cards will be back in action against on Friday, March 20, when they travel to take on industrial at 7 p.m.
