The Weimar Wildcats picked up their first win of the season after defeating the Onalaska Wildcats last Thursday.
The Weimar Wildcats picked up an 8-3 victory over Onalaska and now sit with a 1-7 record for the season.
The game started out scoreless for the first inning as both teams’ defenses turned in a strong performance. In the second inning, Weimar’s defense stood tall again as they held Onalaska to zero points again.
In the bottom of the second inning Weimar started to come alive on offense. Brady Janecka got the party started with a leadoff double.
But after back-to-back strikeouts things were looking a little dicey for Weimar. With two outs on the board and one runner on base, Trey Billeck stepped into the batter’s box.
Billeck then hit a single which ended up bringing Janecka home to open the scoring, but Weimar was not done yet. Braden Mueller was then walked to put runners at first and second base for Weimar.
Treycen Espitia hit a single to load the bases and still with two outs Ty Chmelik made a big play. He hit a triple which cleared the bases for Weimar and extended their lead to 4-0 to end the inning.
In the top of the third inning, Onalaska responded with two runs to cut into Weimar’s lead and make the score 4-2. Weimar’s offense stayed red hot though as Drew Montgomery scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 5-2.
Then in the fourth inning Collin Morrison hit a single followed by a double from Nicholas Vasquez. Both hits were RBIs bringing home a total of three runs to extend their lead to 8-2.
Onalaska then scored once more in the fifth inning to arrive at the final score of 8-3. Weimar now has their first win under their belt and will look to add to their win total when they take the field later this week.
Weimar will be back on the field to take on Flatonia on the road on Friday, March 20, at 7 p.m.
